Old Monovians Association

The past season might well be called a successful one from every point of view, the 1st XI lost only one match, the 2nd XI was unbeaten, and the Under 14 XI won the Schools Cup, remaining unbeaten. In the case of the lst and 2nd XI's it is not the record, but the quality of football played that is, in my opinion, the chief point. There was no kick-and-rush about it, and even if the finishing was not as good as it might have been, the approach work always reached a high standard.
At Christmas the 1st XI lost Lewis, who had been a shining light on the right wing, but nevertheless the gap was filled, and the thrust was down the middle of the field, the wingers being used only for a quick run and a centre. This proved very effective, and it was not until the last game of the season, at Barking, that the team was beaten. This defeat was, I think, due to the smallness of the pitch: the forwards were just crowded out.
The 2nd XI kept more or less the same team throughout the season, and they, too, played good football. Baker deserves great credit for the enthusiastic way in which he captained this team.
The Under 14 XI deservedly won the School Cup, after a hard tussle, and were the first Monoux team to do so. They were keen, hard-working players, and seemed to have better stamina than the sides they met.
Last, but by no means least, we must thank Mr. Morgan for refereeing, and for his enthusiasm.
